50-ruble modified banknote
Home » Production » Secure printing » Modified Banknotes

The 50-ruble modified banknote is printed on tinted paper with a light-blue shade. Light-green and red security fibers, as well as graded fibers with alternating red and blue parts are located chaotically in the paper pulp. The two-colored security fibers look violet, but when observed through a magnifying glass they appear to consist of interchangeable red and blue parts.

On the front side of the banknote the sculpture in the foundation of the Rostral Column is depicted, on the backside is the general view of the Stock Exchange House and the Rostral Column on the Neva Embankment (Saint-Petersburg).

As for principal differences of the modified banknote, the first one is the moiré pattern. It is located on the front side in the ornamental strip to the left of the sculpture image. When viewed at the right angle, the pattern represents an uninterrupted one-tone strip; when viewed at acute angle, it represents interchangeable colored strips.

The second principal difference is the metallized window security thread: it represents an uninterrupted dark line in the transmitted light, and there are five silvery parts on the backside seen in the reflected light.

Layout of organoleptic security elements on the 50-ruble modified banknote

  1. Multi-tone local watermark in the form of the banknote denomination.
  2. Multi-tone local watermark: the image of Peter and Paul Cathedral.
  3. Mark for the blind. The text “A note of the Bank of Russia” and the mark for the blind are of increased relief perceived by touch.
  4. Latent effect (the Kipp effect). When the banknote is viewed at acute angle on the patterned guilloche band, the letters “PP” (Russian Ruble) are seen. The latent image located on the ornamental band is revealed at acute angle in the reflected light. Changing the visual angle but not the view direction, it is possible to notice the way light letters “PP” against dark background become dark against light background.
  5. Serial number, printed on the left coupon with red ink.
  6. Serial number, printed on the right coupon with dark-green ink.
  7. It differs from the previous banknote because of the presence of the following security elements:

  8. Metallized security thread 2 mm wide with 5 parts visible on the surface – “windows” located on the backside.
  9. Covert moiré pattern. Interchangeable color strips are revealed to the left of the gravure, when viewed at acute angle from the long side of the banknote.

With the help of a magnifying glass it is possible to read a microtext on the backside. In the upper part of the banknote there is a positive microtext formed of repeated number 50 in straight and inclined tracing. A negative microtext of dark strips with a light repeated text “ÖÁÐ50” is located beneath.

When banknotes are viewed in UV light, the paper does not glow, red and light-green security fibers have accordingly red and yellow-green luminescence, and red parts of the two-colored fibers have red luminescence. The background image fragments printed on the backside of the banknote with green ink have green luminescence.

MVC effect (covert moire pattern)
Special anti-copying security grid with iris transition
Relief mark for the blind, carried out by means of intaglio printing
Watermark and security window thread (the thread represents an uninterrupted dark line in transmitted light)
