By the beginning of the XIX19-th century the St. Petersburg Mint required technological modernization upgrading and expansion of production facilities. The Trubetzkoy Tower bastion could hardly accommodate all the necessary equipment. And it was then that A the decision was taken to construct a new building for the Mint. The newest machinery coining machines with the steam engine recently invented by Bolton - waswere purchased for the new Mint, the recently invented Bolton steam engine coining machines. Thus Russia was has become one of the first countries worldwide to use the machines with the steam engine machines for minting.
In 1805 the Mint moved to the new building in 1805 into the new building and has been there since then.
